break me off a piece of that kit kat bar.
Kali didn't usually visit Caleb at work. Mostly because, while being a transgenic wasn't as bad as it used to be... well, it's not like she was a docile little X5. Though, technically, she was pretty sure they worked for the same government. More or less.
And who was really going to complain about missing Manticore agents?
But that's besides the point. She normally didn't visit him at work, so to keep up the pretence of good girlfriend (which she was!) she brought coffee and scones, whatever they were.
He had his head down on his desk and considering the long hours he was putting in and the steady breathing, she was sure he was asleep. She poked him and smiled when he blinked at her blearily. "Uh, you know they make flame-retardant ties right?"
Caleb stared, nonplussed, and her smile faltered.
"So if you want to sleep in your clothes... I brought coffee?" She held up the tray of breakfast type food even though it was nearing on "night time". Handing over the coffee and waiting until Caleb rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, she perched on the edge of his desk.
"Th-th-thanks," he said with a jaw-cracking yawn.
She shrugged. Caleb took a fortifying gulp of expertly caffeinated espresso blend and Kali decided that was enough fortification. "I think we should elope." She paused for effect. "Because we've been engaged for two years and if this planning thing is left up to me then we're never going to get married and if we do, we'll be dancing to the Kit Kat theme."
And that right there is infallible logic.
